Dosing Application in Food Processing Equipment
This application note provides an overview of the successful use of magnetically driven external gear pumps for the dispensing of food colours and flavours in bread manufacturing.
THE INDUSTRY
Baker Perkins is a leading supplier of food processing equipment, with their technology integral to the success of many of the world’s leading food manufacturers across several sectors. Their commitment to innovation, technology and class-leading service ensures they remain a market leader in food flavouring systems.
THE APPLICATION
Baker Perkins supplies equipment used in food processing. This extends from foods for human consumption such as bread, biscuits, confectionery and breakfast cereals, to generic food extrusions and pet treats.
On some food applications, the dough requires precise addition of colouring and/or flavouring agents before it is processed through mixers, cutters and finally cooked in convection ovens. A small footprint, cleanliness and accuracy are all highly important considerations when selecting a pump to dose these colourings and flavours.
THE PUMP SOLUTION
The magnetically driven external gear design of Micropump is a compact, reliable and precise solution which allows several mounting orientations (to be integrated in all sorts of machine arrangements) while providing continuous operation and high energy efficiency.
MSE has supplied Baker Perkins with several vertically mounted Micropump GB series pumps with close coupled motors. The patented suction shoe design of the Micropump provides accurate dispensing of product against a variety of liquid densities and viscosities. Thanks to this versatile design, a single pump model can be efficiently used across a wide range of applications. This also means fewer spare parts and units are required by the client and/or by the end user as a single unit, or service kit, covers all machines.
Peter Hanratty, Design Engineer at Baker Perkins states “MSE’s support has been invaluable in assisting us with our pumping needs; we trust their technical expertise”.
